BOGO = Buy One, Get One a.k.a B1G1
I always wondered what would happen if a store had a buy one, get one promotion & you had a BOGO coupon for the same items. In my mind, I figured you would buy one item and get TWO free. Not so. After reading this thread, I learned that essentially the store pays for the free one that they are promoting & the coupon/manufacturer pays for the other free item. Instead of buy one, get one, it's buy none, get two!! Sweet!! Usually these types of deals don't overlap with the coupons, for obvious reasons {free stuff, ya'll}. I tried it today at CVS and it works! I was actually kinda shocked. I purchased two Covergirl face products featured in this week's CVS BOGO promotion. I had a Covergirl coupon for "Buy any Covergirl foundation, get a Covergirl face product free". I bought a foundation for $5.99 and a face product for $7.99. The $5.99 came off for the store promotion since it was the least expensive item and the cashier just had to enter the amount for the facial product {blush} which was $7.99 for the coupon. All I paid was the tax. Now that's a sweet deal!

Where did you get the BOGO coupon?
I'm just curious, where do you get all of your coupons that are not printable?
I buy the Sunday Chicago Tribune in Harvard. *love* it! It comes out on Saturday, so I usually go buy it in the afternoon. You really need some sort of Sunday paper that has coupon inserts to get the best deals. My friend says that you can get it in Rockford too, I'm just not sure where. I would assume the Sunday Rockford Register Star would have coupon inserts as well??
P.S. That is where the BOGO coupon was from....
Not all stores will do this, so ask the management their policy before using the coupons. I was denied by both my Rite Aid and Super Stop & Shop, although CVS did honor these.
Do you buy your newspaper simply for the coupons or did you already buy it before clipping coupons?
I'm just wondering if it would be a waste of money for us to buy a paper (that we do NOT see as a logical expense and we do just fine without...) SIMPLY for the coupons. Sorry, just my logic trying to justify - or unjustify it. I mean, yeah, you get the coupons to save on different products, BUT you are also spending more out of pocket initially...:-P Forgive my ramblings. I'm just thinking outloud...in your blog comments...sorry. :-)
I do usually pick up two different Sunday papers at my grocery store - and I do so mainly for the coupons. I enjoy reading a few features as well. But I always check to make sure they have coupon inserts before I buy them. I easily make back the cost of the newspapers ($3.50) in the coupon savings I get from them.
Last week there was a $5/50 coupon for our grocery store on the front of the newspaper - I made a $1.50 profit just by buying the paper and using that 1 coupon!
Jskell911: Thanks for letting me know! Do they not let you use the BOGO Q at all?? Can you use it to buy one, get two free?
Steph: Kinda complicated answer, but......yes & no. I've always enjoyed reading the Sunday paper. It's something my mom has done for a long time. We both enjoy looking through all the sales ads. Rick & I don't watch the news so we kind of "catch up" by reading the Sunday paper. We enjoy discussing the different articles too. Even before I clipped coupons, I would buy the paper. Not every week, but at least once a month. It's kind of a frugal pleasure that pays for itself.
IMHO, it would be worth it just to buy it for the coupons. Especially the Proctor & Gamble inserts. It pays for itself easily & then some. I have two $3/2 Herbal Essence coupons that I will be using this week to get super cheap hair care @ CVS. The Covergirl coupons allowed me to try some make-up {don't usually wear it} without an extra added expense. I would not have been able to get nearly free Lysol, Windex, toothpaste, free toothbrushes, etc, without the inserts. If you don't want to buy it, maybe someone who gets it could just save the coupons for you :>)
HTH!
